New Year, New You?

A lot of people keep saying things like, "New year, new me!" Well, we're here to tell you that there's nothing wrong with you as you are! There's nothing wrong with wanting to make changes or improve health, but there's no need to try to construct a new you.

Nutrition is on everyone's mind around this time of year, as so many advertisements target the popular New Year's resolution. Here are a couple of tips for the current you:

1. Vegetable, vegetable, vegetable!
- Vegetables are amazing sources of vitamins and fiber. According to the CDC, only about 10% of Americans eat enough vegetables on a regular basis. A simple increase in your veggie intake can help increase energy levels, organ function, and overall health!

2. No fruits after 40!
- Okay, this one deserves a little wiggle room. The thing about fruit is that it contains a TON of sugar, and people who need more sugar in their diet are few and far between! Sugar affects hormones and body systems that can cause you to maintain fat. While eating fruit is certainly different from eating table sugar (more on that in a future post!) sugar is still sugar. The body has an even harder time processing sugar after about 40 years of age, so try to limit your intake- even if that means you have some with breakfast and then some for dessert!

3. You're what's most important!
- We know that you're inundated with messages about weight loss and nutrition. Sure, it's easier said than done, but try not to let it mess with your head! There is no magical diet that works for everyone. Everybody's body is a little different, and everybody's mental game is different! If you and your body are happy, then you've succeeded.

New year, same you, okay?
